January 7th 2019

The start of this new year is being very active, concerning fireballs observations. This occasion, a short but bright fireball flew just in front of Málaga (South Spain) east coasts, close to the border of Granada province. The object could be registered with the SMART Project's detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), La Sagra (Granada) and Sevilla Observatories.

As usual, this event could be also followed by the Calar Alto Observatory (Almería) South surveillance webcam.

January 6th 2019

Again the skies of Castilla La Mancha (mid-south Spain), specifically the south of Ciudad Real province, have witnessed a new fireball. This time, the event happened at 2:35 UT during the Magi Night, and could be registered with the SMART Project's detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), La Sagra (Granada) and Sevilla Observatories.

This fireball could also be registered with two of the Calar Alto Observatory surveillance webcams, although the object passed just on the border of both cameras.

January 5th 2019

On the evening of January 4th 2019 at 17:39 UT, even with still some daylight, a bright fireball crossing the skies of Guadalajara and Soria provinces (mid-north Spain) could be registered with SMART Project's detector at La Hita observatory (Toledo) and with north surveillance webcam operated at Calar Alto Observatory (Almería).

This object couln't be registered with SMART Project's detectors located at Calar Alto Observatory as it happened to low on the horizon.

Again, an object far away from Calar Alto skies can be registered with the cameras located in this observatory. In this case even with some daylight. A consistent proof of the extremely good transparency of the skies.

January 3rd 2019

We already have the first two fireballs of this brand new 2019. First one on the first night of the year, above Balearic Islands, and another one on the January 2nd crossing Granada (Andalucía, South Spain) skies.

The one on January 1st occurred at 5:02 UT, and could be registered with the SMART Project's detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería) and La Hita (Toledo) observatories and also with Calar Alto Observatory external surveillance webcam. The second one happened at 01:48 UT, was registered with the external surveillance webcam located at Calar Alto Observatory (Almería) and with SMART Project's detectors at Sevilla and La Sagra (Granada) observatories. 

December 24th 2018

At 22:12 local time (21:12 UT) of December 22nd 2018, a very bright fireball flew over the Navarra Community (North Spain) and could be clearly seeing from different places in Northern Spain (Cantabria, Aragón, País Vasco).

But the impressive thing is that this object could be registered also with one of the Calar Alto Observatory (Almería, South Spain, more than 700 km far away) external surveillance webcam. However, the fireball happened so close to the horizon that the SMART detectors (which points higher) were not able to register it from this observatory.
