During the night of May 15, we were able to enjoy a bright fireball of asteroidal origin.

The event was recorded by the detectors operated by the SMART Project at Calar Alto (Almería), Huelva, La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada), Seville, Otura (Granada), and Mazagón (Huelva).

The cameras at the Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also tracked the event.

April 29, 2026

During the night of April 23, we were able to enjoy a beautiful fireball associated with the Lyrids.

The event was recorded by the detectors operated by the SMART Project at the observatories of Calar Alto in Almería, Huelva, La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada), Seville, and Mazagón (Huelva).

The southeast camera at the Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also tracked the event.

April 21, 2026

During the period between March 17 and April 14, several remarkable fireball events were observed over the central and southern regions of the Iberian Peninsula. Specifically, events were recorded on March 17, 19, and 26, as well as on April 7 and 14, at different times.

All these events were recorded by the detectors of the SMART Project operated from the observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Mazagón (Huelva), and Seville, as well as other collaborating stations located across different parts of Spain.

The external cameras of the Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also witnessed several of these objects, complementing the records obtained by the detection network.

March 18th 2026

Last night of March 17th, at 21h54 and 22h30 UT, we were able to witness a nice fireball event.

The fireball was recorded by the SMART Project detectors operated from the observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Otura (Granada) and Seville.

The north camera located at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also followed the  object.

December 22nd 2025

During the nights of December 20 and 21, we were able to witness two beautiful fireball events over the center of the Iberian Peninsula. The first occurred at 21:10 UT on the 20th, and the second at 02:45 UT.

Both events were recorded by the SMART Project detectors operated from the observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Mazagón (Huelva), and Seville. The one on the 21st could also be observed from Otura (Granada).

The external cameras of the Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also witnessed both objects.
