Almeria is breaking boundaries with Calar Alto Astrophotography

Calar Alto Fourth International Astrophotography, Timelapse and Astronomical Drawing Contest has released its winners. This edition, the contest has consolidated its international character thanks to works coming from France, Australia, United States, Ireland and Thailand. Almería is breaking boundaries in Astronomy. This time, 114 works have been submitted. The judges found it difficult to choose the winners, given the high quality of photographies, videos and drawings.

The winner of Deep Sky category, which awards photographies showing nebula galaxies and stars formations, is Josep Drudis, who won the first mention too. Brendan Kinch achieved the second mention, and Juan Ignacio Jiménez obtained the third mention.

The winner of Planetary category, devoted to planets and satellites in our solar system, is Alfredo Vidal Pérez, who has also achieved the first mention of this category. Dani Caxete obtained the second mention, and Salvador Ortega won the third mention.

The winner of the new category Night Landscape is Antonio Martín Carrillo. Jordi Fraxanet got the first mention and Óscar Blanco Varela achieved the second and third mentions.

Dominique Joubert is the winner in the category Timelapse, whose only mention mention goes to Nicolas Jouhert.

The contest has presented this year a new category called Astronomical Drawing, which is gaining more and more followers and awards the works that relate Astronomy, Science and Art. The winner is Ángel Insua Brandariz, and Jesús Salado Castro has achieved the only mention.

The winners will enjoy three days in Calar Alto Observatory using the telescope 1,23 to take pictures of the sky from Sierra de los Filabres. Astrophotographies, timelapse and drawings will become part of the fonds of Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory.
