Calar Alto Observatory founding member of the RECTA Network

Andalusia has just created the first network of institutions devoted to science communication existing in Spain. This network was born on December 12th, 2007, under de auspices of the Junta de Andalucía (the regional government of the autonomous community Andalusia), and Calar Alto Observatory is one of its founder members.  

 

The RECTA network includes 14 Andalusian institutions, and its headquarters will be placed at Parque de las Ciencias, the main Andalusian science museum, located in the city of Granada.

RECTA is a non-profit association that will promote Science and Technology to the general public. The association will undertake a number of different initiatives, from establishing communication channels among the member institutions, to developing and promoting joint activities and projects. RECTA includes institutions with very different backgrounds, from historic scientific institutes such as the Royal Institute and Observatory of the Navy, to modern installations created primarly as science communication centres, such as the Principia Science Museum in Malaga. Calar Alto Observatory is present in RECTA from its beginning, showing a commitment to the promotion of Science and Technology as fundamental parts of modern culture, and deepening the Observatory’s roots in the cultural tissue of the Andalusian society.  

The association was constituted in Granada, on the 12^th of December, with the presence of relevant Andalusian authorities and representatives from all founder member institutions:
