CALAR ALTO UTILITIES WEB PAGE

On this page you can find three kinds of utilities available at Calar Alto:

• Local utilities done at Calar Alto or installed as user requests.
• Well known programs for Astronomy.
• Special Services

To have access to all the Calar Alto Utilities, you must execute the command: getastro caha This command can be included into .cshrc file (if you do not have it already) so every time you enter into your account, you'll be able to execute this set of utilities. There is also other utilities available throught the use of the command: getastro tools

SUITES	Sun StarOffice Version 5.1	The StarOffice Suite provides compatibility with MS Office for Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Presentations. It is installed on the network, but users must ask for the installation of configuration files on their local accounts. Please speak with E. Guindos (guindos@caha.es) on extension 517.

- Well Known Astronomy Programs:

On the next table, there is an overview of the well known programs for astronomy. Note that those are programs under the CAHA tools area (accessed via getastro caha). Of course there are more astronomy utilities (i.e. Midas, IDL, SAOimage, Display, etc...) as well as other kind of useful programs as C, GCC, F77 and G77 compilers, TCL/TK, Perl and so on, normally availables at any site.

SERVICE	HOW TO USE THIS SERVICE
DHCP	This service will allow you to have your own laptop connected directly to our network. You have only to tell your computer you are going to use DHCP (or to obtain an automatic IP in case of Windows). This service has much more features since June 2002, as now we have a Linux Private Network running lots of services and programs. Please, click here for a complete description.
