CALIBRATION
This Section explains how to perform spectrograph and A&G camera calibrations

  • Spectrograph BIAS.
    • From within pics_GUI, start Bias exposure ()
  • Spectrograph DARK.
    • In pics_GUI, select pulldown menu DefObs - Define PBlock, enter dark exposure time
    • start Dark exposure ()
  • Spectrograph internal flatfield exposure.
    • Make sure that CALUNIT is in calibration position (Status Window CALIBRATION UNIT: CALUNIT Status = O.K. (green).
If not active, select pics_GUI ,
    • From pics_GUI, select one or several from set of Calibration Lamps (Lamp 1 ... Lamp 6).
NOTE: up to four lamps can be combined in parallel. Lamps 2/3 and 4/5 must be selected alternatively since they are sharing power supplies PS2 and PS3.
    • pics_GUI: switch on lamp power supplies where needed
    • pics_GUI: open calibration lamp shutter(s)
    • In pics_GUI, select pulldown menu DefObs - Define PBlock, enter exposure time
    • Status Window: make sure calibration lamp LIGHT is reported on for all selected lamps.
    • pics_GUI: start exposure ()
  • Spectrograph sky flatfield exposure.
