University of Almería (UAL) and Calar Alto Observatory ( CAHA) will enhance astronomical knowledge

This Friday, July 8th, a delegation from the University of Almería (UAL) has visited Calar Alto Observatory installations. Among the collaboration projects that will be launched, stand out the creation of an astronomical lecture room at the UAL, the incorporation of trainees at the Observatory and the creation of a summer course that approach its work to the whole society.

The University of Almería (UAL), Calar Alto Observatory (CAHA) and Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) have ratify a compromise in order to continue with the UAL-CSIC collaboration agreement signed in 1996, progressing in some of its contents. This Friday July 8th, a delegation from UAL, headed by the rector Carmelo Rodriguez, has visited Calar Alto Observatory installations, the biggest observatory in Europe mainland.

The weird system of star CVSO 30: two planets at extreme distances

A direct image has been taken of a planet so far away from his star that it takes twenty-seven thousand years for completing one orbit, and it shares the system with another planet which completes its orbit in just eleven hours.

Calar Alto Observatory (CAHA, MPG/CSIC) 2.2m Telescope and the Astralux camera has been used on this observation campaign.

Susana Diaz commits the Andalusian government support to the continuity of Calar Alto Observatory

The president of Junta de Andalucía has visited the observatory because of the presentation of CARMENES project, which will search for exoplanets where the conditions could allow liquid water.

The president of Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz, has committed the support from her govern, within the scope of its competences, for the observatory continuity, as its German partner will leave at the end of 2018.

The Spanish-German Astronomical Centre at Calar Alto (CAHA, MPG / CSIC) and the company Azimuth-Education and scientific tourism, have signed an agreement for the management and development of astrotourism and outreach activities from the observatory and its environment

The Calar Alto Observatory, the largest astronomical complex in continental Europe, has signed an agreement with the company Azimuth to develop a program that will allow citizens to visit the observatory and access facilities and instruments that until now have only been available to professionals. PlanetCam UPV/EHU camera is fully operational at Calar Alto Observatory (CAHA)

The camera aims to study the Solar System objects, but it can also be used for the observation of any object with high gloss that requires a high spatial resolution.

Calar Alto Observatory has a new instrument, the PlanetCam camera that, developed by University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU), offers a big spatial and temporal resolution in both the visible and the infrared channels, and that will work at the 1.23 and 2.2 meters telescopes .

The European Space Agency (ESA) will search for potentially dangerous objects from Calar Alto

ESA and Calar Alto have signed a collaboration agreement for the exclusive remote use of the 80 cm. Schmidt Telescope.

NEOs (Near Earth Objects) are comets or asteroids which their orbits, possibly modified by gravitational pull of planets, lead them to regions near to the Earth orbit. Although possibilities of an impact against the Earth are very reduced, the scientific community are developing programs for detecting and studying such objects. Calar Alto Observatory (CAHA, MPG/CSIC) has signed an agreement with European Space Agency (ESA) for the exclusive use of one of its telescopes in ESA’s NEOs detection campaign.
