The Calar Alto Computer News for 2000

(Period from June to December 2000)

(A) Hardware:

- Jobs for allowing about 10 modems for remote PPP connections (RAS) has been started. This will allow in a future people from their rooms to connect to the network. At the present, two modems are operative, installed under a Windows 2000 RAS Server.

- Jobs for the upgrade of our 2Mb link to Internet have started. The upgrade is from the actual 2Mb to 8Mb. Probably on february / march (year 2001) the new link will start working

- At the Almería's Office, a new network between all the PC's installed there has been set up. Again, in february that network will be permanent connected with our main network at the mountain with a ISDN link.

(B) Software:

- Color Package added to IRAF

- DHCP Server set up on our Windows 2000 Server machine

- Data Base Server set up. Several Data Base applications (like Night Reports or Scattering) are already working on it. Also this server is working on our Windows 2000 Server computer

- As mentioned above for the modems, the RAS server is also prepared

- Program for extracting fits files from dat into tape: datout

- DIMM software is ready, waiting for the hardware to be fixed up

- As requested by different users, pine has been installed
