Calar Alto Computer News for 2001
1. Hardware
- New router installed. Our old Cisco 2501 has been replaced by the new Cisco 3640. On this one, we have up to four 2Mbps ports, allowing a maximum bandwidth of 8Mbps. It has also a ISDN port dedicated to Almería's Office network
- Together with the above, our Microwave link has been upgraded to its maximum capacity: 8Mbps. It started working on March
- New Windows 2000 server at Almería's Office with DHCP server
- New General Use Computer. It is called ca5 and it is a SUN Ultra80 with 2 processors and 1Gb of main memory. At present it has 280 Gb of disk space
- 3 more x-terminals
- ca2 and ca4 now are reconverted into x-terminals for our Astronomy group. ca6 was also reconverted but for general use
- New main server computer (cassy) is now operative. Operating system is Solaris 8
- New Web Server. Now this service is running on a SUN Ultra1 computer with Solaris 8 at 64 bits
- 2 more modems added
2. Software
- FFL : A software for controlling Flat Field Lamps. It was done together with Electronic Group's Mitsubishi Programable Controller
- New Weather Web Page with lots of new features: 12 graphic tendency, Seeing Data, improved perfomance on Statistics, wind statistical data, etc...
- New Computer Web Page.
- Lots of security jobs, including filtering on our router and several patch installation for Solaris
- Temperature measurements on differents places at 3.5m. Here is the web page
- Reflection and Scattering Data Base measurements
- Some client computers are now upgraded to Solaris 8
- Web Proxy installed. It serves also as cache
- Our Web server was upgraded to Apache 1.3.9
- Ftp area increased up to 30Gb
