Calar Alto Computer News for July to December 2000

1. Hardware

• Jobs for upgrading our 2Mb link to Internet have started. The upgrade is from the actual 2Mb to its maximum 8Mbps. Probably next feb/march 2001 the new bandwidth will start in operation
• New Almería's Office network. Next year, together with the new bandwidth said above, it will be permanently connected to our Calar Alto Network through an ISDN link

2. Software

• Color Package added to IRAF
• DHCP Server set up on the new Windows 2000 Server computer
• Data Base server set up. Several Data Base applications (like Night Reports or Scattering) are already working on it. Again, this is working on the new Windows 2000 server
• Program for extracting fits files from dat into disk: datout
• DIMM softare is already running, waiting for the hardware to be fixed up
• As requested by several users, pine has been installed
