1. Hardware

New 33Gb disks for the instrumentations computers: ultra3 at 2.2m (1 disk) and ultra1 at 3.5m (2 disks in total)

New 9Gb disk for the Instrument computer at 1.23m (ultra2)

New high capacity DDS3 DAT units for ultra3 (2.2m) and ultra1 (3.5m)

New switch 100/10 Mbps at 1.23m Network. The complete switched network at this telescope will be finished next year

New SUN Ultra60 machine (ca1) for our Astronomy Group

New system for automatic image archive on cdrom (K. Zimmermann)

A re-writer cdrom unit at laboratory

Increased memory for several x-terminals

Two new Tektronix x-terminals were placed at the 3.5m observer root, one of them with double head (two monitors)

Finished the switched TP network installation at the laboratory, 3.5m and 2.2m

New webserver (our www server). It has now better architecture (SUN Ultra1) and more memory

New computer for our Meteosat Satellite receiver, faster and more reliable

Increased up to 256 Kbps the bandwidth or our Heidelberg Satellite Link
2. Software
- New Operating System on our server and on all the system clients except instrumentation computers, archive machine and 2.2m telescope system. The new operating system is Solaris 7. The reason for leaving the mentioned machines with the old operating system is due to the fact that several software, special for instrumentation, is not running with the new Solaris 7. This will be studied in the near future (Tremmel, Guindos)
- Related to the above point is that our old SunOS server is no longer needed as all the services that were still running on that computer has been moved to the new Solaris Server. It will run only for safety reasons during a short period of time
- Automatic dome implemented (dauto) on the 1.23m (Hernández, Mueller, Thiele, Guindos)
- Registry of observers coming to Calar Alto. This is linked with the listing utility (fitlist). See below
- Fitslist utility for creating listings of fits files on disk
- Corrected fitscopyx utility for detecting problems with DATs end of tape marks
- New wdxx program with graphic tendency
- New web page for weather statistics
- Rebuild or our CAHA Utilities web page
- New IRAF version (Revision 2.11) installed together with Stsdas package
- Several utilities like ximtool, xgterm or saotng (v 1.9) installed
- SuperMongo installed
- Two Licenses of IDL 5.2 were bought
- Majordomo has been installed
- New nedit editor on the Solaris environment
